Mint launches pre-pay gift card

Credit card provider Mint has launched a new prepaid card in preparation for the upcoming festive season, where gift buyers can load a special debit card with between £10 and £250 and have it delivered to the recipient, complete with a personalised message printed on the card.

Users of the card can check their remaining balance via text message, and it can be used free of charge at a wide range of stores, much like a traditional debit card operating under the Visa Electron scheme. It is not, however, reloadable with new funds.
The card itself costs £3 to buy, and can either be delivered to the buyer or directly to the gift recipient, with the day of delivery also able to be chosen.
