Barclaycard Breathe - A New ‘Green’ Credit Card
Credit card giant Barclaycard has introduced a new credit that it says will help in the fight against global climate change. The Breathe card offers incentives for its holders to spend in a greener way, such as offering lower interest rates for spending on public transport, and discounts on green energy supplies.
Cardholders can also get a 10% discount on cycles bought at Halfords, plus up to £50 off the costs of home insulation from British Gas.
Barclaycard also says that 50% of the profits that the card generates will be donated to projects tackling climate change, although personal finance experts have pointed out that people who use the card prudently and don’t get into debt will not generate any profits to be donated. Barclaycard, however, have said that a minimum of £1m will be donated in the first year, whatever the level of profits.
The more standard features of this card include an APR of 14.9% at the time of writing, and a six months 0% balance transfer period (fee applies).
