Amex unveils Nectar card

Credit card giant American Express (Amex) has announced a new credit card featuring the Nectar reward points program. For some users the card could make a good replacement for Sainsbury’s or Barclaycard cards which have recently pulled out of the scheme.

Users of the card will earn 1 Nectar point per pound they spend using the card, which is doubled up to 2 points per pound if the card is used at Nectar-participating retailers such as Debenhams, Sainsbury’s or BP.

The points earned are in addition to the 2 points per pound you earn by showing your normal Nectar rewards card, meaning that you could earn up to 4 points per pound you spend if you play your cards right.

At release, the card features a standard APR of 12.9%, an introductory balance transfer rate of 5.9% for the life of the balance, and a bonus of 1000 Nectar points when you first use the card.
