American Express have a new card which will help fight HIV and Aids in Africa. The Amex Red card is to be launched in the UK only as part of a new global brand, Product Red, backed by pop singer Bono, which also includes products by Gap, Emporio Armani, and Converse.

Holders of the card will see 1% of all their eligible spending donated to the Global Fund to be used to help prevent the transmission of HIV from mothers to children. The rate will increase to 1.25% for spending over £5,000 a year.

Standard features of the card include a typical APR of 12.9%, a balance transfer rate of 5.9% for life for balances transferred within the first 6 months, no annual fee, and a range of insurance cover features.
